Round-Up

Every Spring, right around Mother's Day we do a round-up of cattle at the ranch. The neighbors help out as we help out with theirs. It's a community event, which I like. We tag the cows, make steers out of the bulls, give them their shots, (non-hormonal, etc.), and we brand them. It's not really a pleasant sight. It's a job and it's a way of life. Thankfully, we do not slaughter them. Our cows live a great life with about 450 acres in which to graze and live happily. They are treated very well considering where they end up, which is something I do not like to think about. After we're all done, we get to enjoy a wonderful meal prepared by my Mom in law. It makes it all worth it in the end.

  1. Oh my, 450 acres in Jalama? Those lucky cows! That is our favorite dream area to live! My husband and I lived in Santa Barbara for ten year, and have since moved to the mountains of North Carolina. We miss the days of surfing and playing at Jalama coast. Such a beautiful place. Lovely blog, I look forward to visiting again.
